Spanish for moving to Argentina: where to start

You do not need perfect Spanish before moving. It is more useful to prepare for concrete situations: renting a home, seeing a doctor, explaining a problem, ordering a service and meeting neighbors.

What to learn first

Start with numbers, dates, addresses, time, prices and simple polite phrases. Add vocabulary for housing, transport, paperwork, healthcare and shopping โ€” the areas you are most likely to need in the first weeks.

Learn short ready-made phrases rather than isolated words. They make it easier to ask someone to repeat, clarify an address, explain that you did not understand or agree on the next step.

Argentine Spanish

Spanish in Argentina has its own pronunciation, rhythm and vocabulary. Local speech may sound unfamiliar at first, but regular listening helps you adjust quickly.

Do not wait for fluency before speaking. Ask people to slow down, repeat important details and correct you gently โ€” that is more effective than avoiding conversations.

A language plan after arrival

Set one small daily goal: one conversation, a few new phrases or a short Spanish audio. Write down expressions you actually hear at a shop, doctor's office or rental home.

Use a translator or a friend for difficult early meetings if needed. Then gradually take over daily tasks yourself so language grows together with independence.
