Cost of living in Argentina: how to build a realistic budget
Spending depends not only on the city but also on the neighborhood, home size, habits and whether you will use private healthcare. It is more useful to build the budget by category than to look for one universal number.
The main spending categories
A monthly budget usually includes rent and utilities, food, transport, connectivity, healthcare, household costs and leisure. Families add schools, activities and child-related expenses.
The biggest difference often comes from housing and location. Pick a comfortable rent range first, then see how it changes the total and access to transport.
Modest, comfortable and premium scenarios
A modest scenario means a smaller home, cooking at home and close attention to variable costs. A comfortable one adds a more convenient neighborhood, regular outings and private healthcare. A premium scenario includes more space, services and leisure.
Choose a scenario you can sustain for several months, not just a nice-looking number. Calculate one-off moving costs separately: flights, deposit, setup and paperwork.
How to build a buffer
The first months rarely match your normal budget: there may be overlapping rent, household purchases, trips to offices and unexpected fees. Keep a reserve separate from the amount you plan to spend each month.
Prices and exchange rates change, so update the calculation for your chosen city and neighborhood before moving. This is a planning guide, not financial advice.
