Moving to Argentina with a pet: a plan without surprises
A pet adds its own relocation track: veterinary preparation, paperwork, airline rules and post-flight adjustment. Starting early lowers the risk that one missing document delays the whole family's move.
Start with the official requirements
Requirements depend on the species, departure country and carrier. First check the current rules with the official veterinary authority and the airline; only then schedule vaccinations, an exam and the ticket.
Confirm which documents must be originals, whether a translation or certification is needed, and how close to departure the paperwork must be issued. Two airlines on the same route can have different requirements.
Veterinary preparation
Ask your vet for a clear health record: vaccinations, chronic conditions, medication and the results of any required tests. Keep both a paper folder and digital copies.
The carrier must fit the animal and the airline's rules. Introduce your pet to it well in advance, do not try sedatives on departure day without veterinary advice, and pack familiar food for the journey.
- Check the microchip, identification and contact details early
- Confirm the rules for cabin and hold transport
- Leave time for paperwork and possible changes to the requirements
The first days in Argentina
After the journey, your pet needs water, a quiet place and a familiar routine. Find a veterinary clinic near your home in advance and check where familiar medication or food is available.
If you are renting, confirm the building and landlord's pet rules ahead of time. Before each trip, check the official requirements again: import rules, forms and airline conditions can change.
